Fittings

Today I had my final fitting for my dress. I had envisioned putting the dress on making a few minor adjustments and walking out on cloud 9. Instead what happened was an internal freak out when I realized the dress was too short and then tears ensued when I realized there might be a chance it couldn't be fixed.

As a tall woman this is a worst nightmare that something is too short especially your wedding dress. I am used to not being able to buy certain styles because they don't come long enough. I have even attempted to pull off a few items despite them being too short. But for my wedding dress to have a dress be visibly to short is a dreaded thought. I even spent a good chunk of change to order my dress with extra material so that I wouldn't have to worry about the dress being too short.

Needless to say I am 99% sure the dress will be fixed. Despite the fact that the material was cut and there was only about a half inch that could be let out. We also stretched out the bodice so that it sits lower, cut out some of the tulle so that it lays more streamline, and took out part of the bra cups to get the dress to where it needs to be.

I do have to say that the bodice and the rest of the dress look fabulous. My seamstress had to take in the dress about 2 dress sizes and I was worried that it would affect the look and style. But she did a wonderful job. Most likely the fact that it had to be taken in so much is the reason the end product was too short because once we took the dress in it sat higher on my hips. Overall I am happy and know that the day of the wedding it should look great, luckily a major crisis was adverted.

Today we also had a second fitting. I went with Andy's sister, Christy, to have her final fitting. The dress looks great and I couldn't be happier. The fit is fattering, it is a nice cut and I LOVE the color. I was happy to have one smooth sailing fitting.

1 Month To Go!

I'm back finally after a long hiatus to work on our new home we just moved into. While there are plenty of things to still be done I finally feel like I am not living amid boxes and chaos so I can get back to the wedding stuff.

Today is exactly one month from our wedding. I am pumped and stressed! Because I have been focused on the house for so long all the small projects have crept up on me. But I also can't wait for the wedding to get here.

While I was gone we did do a few things wedding wise. I had my alterations appointment. I am anxious to see the dress because it is going to have to be taken in 2 dress sizes, but I am positive it will look great. Andy picked out his final tux details. Everyone is wearing a 2 button black tux. The only difference is Andy will have a silver tie/vest, groomsmen purple tie/vest, and my dad black tie/vest. Lastly we had our final cake tasting and decided on a design, the cake details will be coming to you tomorrow!

Wedding Shoes

Is it possible to absolutely be in love with a pair of shoes? If so I am head over heels, pun intended. I L.O.V.E. the color even though it looks a little off in the pictures.

Fierce and Fabulous, 'nuff said!

Busy Day

Today was a supremely busy day. Work all day, pick up Tiffany's wedding dress, makeup class, and birthday dinner for Tiffany (even though it was yesterday). From beginning to end I was away from home starting at 8am until 10pm.

Tiffany's dress was beautiful and perfectly her. She had the same experience as me trying it on for the second time, which was a bit of a let down. You idealize the dress in your head that when it finally comes in it isn't perfect because it still needs alterations and such. However despite the demons in her head it was a beautiful dress and looked great on her.

The makeup class tonight was fantabulous!! For two hours I got to play with makeup with my favorite girls and by far the best makeup artist in town, who happens to be kick ass person also. I was really excited when she asked us to be her guinea pigs for a new service she would like to start offering. But it was way better than I had anticipated. I learned that while I might really be into makeup and have decent technique I really need to up my game in the products department. However I did learn enough to be able to pretend to be a pro to do Tiffany's makeup for her wedding since her's will be out of town.

The Dress Is In

My dress is in and I picked it up today! I was slightly frustrated at the bridal store because they never called me to come pick it up and when I called earlier this week they said it has been in for awhile now. O well.

At first when I put the dress on I was slightly disappointed. It didn't look the same as I remembered and I felt I looked worse in it. But that was because it was too big since I have lost a good amount of weight! Once they pulled it tight around me to show what the alterations would look like it all came flooding back and I loved it again. Needless to say the problem of having it be too big is a problem I am very happy to have!

I tried on my veil I made the other night and we have decided to shorten it. I am going to shorten it to a waltz length which is right around the knees just past the fingertips.

Picking up the dress makes it all very real and is getting me excited. For so long the wedding has been months and months away. Now it's actually coming up soon!

Veil Mission

I think I have decided to attempt to DIY my veil. At first I thought this was something I would want to do. Then after shopping for veils I was second guessing myself seeing how different tulle and styles laid differently. But after looking at other pictures of DIY veils from other brides and realizing how I could make my own for about $25 instead of spending ridiculous amounts, I am going to try it.

See how good these turned out! I think I can do it also, at least I am going to try. Pictures taken from ChiMonique and Katelaff.

Brooch

Over the holidays I was able to do some searching on ebay and bought a brooch to use to make my faux haute bride bracelet. I didn't want anything gaudy so I bought a smaller one which I think is going to work really well. Now I have go to buy some pearls and make the bracelet. If it ends up being too small then I will start the search over but I think when all is said and done it will turn out really well.

Speaking of Jewelry

While we are on the topic of bridal jewelry I bought these earrings this weekend. Not sure yet if I will wear them with my dress but I like how sparkly they are without being too much like some chandelier earrings I have found. I went ahead and bought them because at 8 bucks they were too good to pass up and if all else fails at least I know I have these to wear.

Bridal Bracelet

Haute Bride makes these bracelets that are very in right now and I think one would go perfectly with my dress. Unfortunately spending a couple hundred on a bracelet just isn't an option so I am hoping to make a knock off. Luckily I have a little bit of know how for making jewelry and the tools, now I just need the pieces. If you happen to know where I can find a VERY affordable brooch like the one in the knock off below or like one on their website I would be much obliged!

Feathers

In February I am the Maid of Honor for a vintage inspired wedding. The bride is wearing a fabulous cowl neck sheath dress and a birdcage veil with a feather accent. These shoes would go perfectly with the look she is trying to create. However I am not sure if the Christian Louboutin price is within her budget.

Screw the Dress

I want to know where to find those shoes!

For a pop of color I want to wear a pair of a bright, true purple shoes just like those under my dress! Here's hoping I can find something similar. Oh and if you do like the dress it's from the Reverie line by Melissa Sweet.

Tiaras

I have never thought of myself to be a tiara girl. When the word tiara is mentioned I think of pretty pretty princesses and images like this pop into my head:

Not really the look I am going for. When looking at wedding dresses I have purposefully stayed away from the princess look. I am hoping for something more understated, classic and elegant. However while looking around I have seen some tiaras that are actually pretty and worth considering. Being that I am going to wear my hair down or mostly down, adding something to my hair might not be such a bad idea and would give my veil something to anchor into.

Pictures taken from Ciulla Photography

I think this tiara looks beautiful on her and really adds something with the veil. For me I would choose something a bit simpler but it could work. This is one idea I just might consider and not completely write off, we will just have to see...

Heels?

I am dying to wear a fabulous pair of heels on wedding day. However I just don't know if it's a reality for me. For those of you who aren't aware I stand at a tall 6 feet. Luckily I have an equally tall fiance and could wear 4" heels and still not be taller. I have towered over friends and family for years and really don't want to tower any more than necessary over all my guests. That might sound silly but if you spent years at high school dances having to bend down to hear what people were saying over the music it would make more sense.

Heels would make for a funny looking father/daughter dance since I am already taller than my Dad in flats. In heels I just wouldn't be comfortable all day and that's the last thing I want on my wedding day, pinched toes. But mainly if I want to wear heels I will have to order my dress with extra length because they just don't make wedding dresses for tall girls, so I really need to decide now if I want to wear heels. I doubt heels are in the cards for me, but just maybe . . .
